Max Speed: average 13

Back on the road bike with no wind about about and looking for a 3 hr non stop training ride which for me is around 40 miles. Av been doing 10's and 20's to improve speed as the experts say, and I do get the logic behind it. However I ain't noticed any difference today attempting 40 other than I again abandon the attempt. I appear to average around 13mph ish whenever I ride!
Av now settled on the road bike dimensions / setup, so don’t need to tweak anymore as I am comfortable whether doing 10 or 40 miles. Rode the fast stretch from Sproughton to Claydon along a long sloping B road with loads of cars averaging 15mph for 6 miles which was pleasing and HR only ticking over at 103. To validate my Tom Tom watch HR I had the chest HR on today which had similar pulse rate. The chest band was showing slighty higher HR and less spiking, but the watch was within 5-7% most of the time (less HR) on the app anyway.
After the slog up a long slope / hill on a quite road, trying to too hard forced me to abandon the 40 mile attempt again. It was too hard today and it looked like rain in the storm clouds so decided to switch to 30 mls.
Lots of bikers out today, but all too quick for me along the Ipswich bypass, with all overtaking me including the ladies ffs! I was doing around 15mph on the big crank 2 from top yet all flew past me! They must av been clocking close to 20mph.
10 and 15 mile targets weren't met so today wasn’t going well at all as I hit Purdis Heath golf club to head towards Felixstowe. Was now 5 minutes off best pace so turned right back towards Ipswich instead of left on the Old Felixstowe road with HR now running at 130, I was tiring and riding into wind, so had to go down to the drop bars for the aero slog. Def road bikes gives more options for long rides, although my wrists now felt overloaded so perhaps my bike setup is not as perfect as I thought! My speed was now down to 13mph with HR still high at 120 along Nacton road so lowered the gear and went for a higher cadence using less strength. HR came down now back to 103 so upped the gears and made the 25 miles in 1hr 50 which was OK but nothing special. Too many cars on the road now. My previous ride to Somersham was dangerous as twice cars were too close on overtake and I abandon a ride to Needham Market as too man speeding cars. Think its time to get back on the MTB and off road.
Ran the road bike at 100 psi today which was a bit uncomfortable on the wrists and def a bone shaker, so will go back to 90psi.
Not much sun so only used one water bottle and looking at the TT app HR rates, maybe another bottle much earlier would have been better.
Nice training ride however and felt it was a hard sessh.
Max speed today was 27mph on a nice down hill stretch and done 2153 calories.
